I love Lucy arrives

Campgrounds on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC are relatively empty. It is nice. Peak leaves in a week or two.

Not too many people on the Blue Ridge Parkway today. Thankfully few noisy Harleys too.

Trees in the NC mountains have good color above 3500 feet. Below that the trees are still pretty green!

Trees in the VA mountains have good color above 3000 feet or so. Below that the trees are still relatively colorless.

Dinner

Dinner at Pizza Hut in Boone was a complete disaster.

No booby

Moving on. Too many good looking leaves around.

Bird

About 25 people here looking for the bird. Couple oddballs but most are
nice. Longest drive goes to someone from PA.

Overlooking the Claytor Lake

In search of

A brown booby at Claytor Lake State Park in Virginia. The booby sleeps
late so we don't have to get up too early.

Leaves are supposed to be at peak so it should be a beautiful journey.

Mirlo beach is the problem area

Stopped

Stopped at the Chicamacomico water tower. Apparently the road is washed
out ahead. Gonna be here a couple hours...

Lunch

Lunch sppot at the end of the road in Buxton near Cape Point. Bad overwash
with lots of foam.

Ferry

Roughest ferry i've ever been on. Expect they'll close it sometime today.

Busted

Had to move. No sticking it to the man tonight. He was very nice about it
though.

Windy, very windy. Ferry might not be running tomorrow.

Ocracoke lighthouse at night

Since we aren't really fishermen any more we drove by the Ocracoke
lighthouse for an evening photo opportunity.

Walk

We did the traditional walk through the maritime forest to the Pamlico
Sound.

Its important too

Hey sometime you have gotta empty it too! I mean, where do you think it

We filled up with water as well.

Turtle

Along the nature walk through the maritime forest we came upon this turtle.
He was shy.

Probably hard to see but there is a ruddy turnstone that just went by.

Did you hear there is a brown booby in sw Virginia? How cool is that?

Alive

We're up. Not too much good though. Its windy and rainy out. Back when
we fished it wouldn't be a big deal. We appear to be refining our purpose.
It appears to be some variant of sitting.

Lazy

Still in the camper after dinner. Hip has had enough for today and is
telling me about it.

Beef tips and rice, veggies, baked apples, and bread. Some unseen because
they were already eaten! Yummy.

as the sun fades

We'll not really since it was cloudy. But, if it weren't cloudy the sun
would be fading.

Fishing

Rod's in. Waiting on the bite. Hope its soon cuz the hip can't do this
all night. I got a bad hip yunno.

New road

A new road through the bird areas. Cuts waaaay back in the sound near
Teaches Hole.

Happy burner in the Norcold

maintenance

Had to do a liitle work on the Lance camper today. A bug had apparently
clogged the burner up on the refridgerator and it wasn't cooling right.

I had ordered a new burner and we installed it today.

Works perfectly now. The old one was clogged with bug dirt?

Dinner

For dinner we had spaggetti from Jasons. Why cook when Jason does?

Wheels

The wheel simulators didn't stay on in the sand. We packed them ibn the
truck after we rode back to find them.

The truck does very good in the sand even with dual rear wheels (dually).

A perfect day. Just enough winds to keep the skeeters and greenheads away.

A little BBQ for lunch while Jimmy Buffett tunes stream for the speakers.

We put in about 9 something. Heading for the towndock at oriental. The
saturday kayak trip was heading out. Then we took off in the Neuse to look
for shrimp.

Obama

Just saw a bumper sticker..."Obama just another bum looking for change".

Packed up and going shrimping. Going to bring the boat back home too since
its surf fishing season now.
