Great Smoky Mountains

Headed home

Saturday

We drove all day Saturday and stopped at a Cracker Barrel late last night just outside of Knoxville. The states for yesterday were: Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Illinois

We made it through St. Louis. We are now in Illinois headed to Kentucky.

Friday

Yesterday was spent mostly driving, except for stops for gas and food and to get the hounds out for walks.

We did make a pit stop in Colorado. While we have spent time in Colorado, this camper had not been there so we had to stop.

So as a recap, we were in Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and Missouri yesterday. We spent the night at a Cracker Barrel in Independence, Missouri.

Friday

So we stopped in Cheyenne, Wyoming last night and stayed at Camp Wally. This morning we got up and went to Sierra Trading Post outlet store.

The car below was parked next to us when we came out. They were from Vermont.

Bridges for wildlife

Headed home

So, we are headed home today (Thursday). We made one last stop in Jackson to walk around the town and check out some of the shops.

The sheriff in the picture below is wearing a plaid flannel shirt.

The end of the good part of the trip.

Herd of buffalo

This will probably be the last herd of buffalo we see on this trip.

Thursday morning

Miles driven so far this trip.

Gros Ventre

The last few nights we stayed at the Gros Ventre campground. In the office they have this map (shown below) that campers put pins in to show where they are from. These are just the visitors since May of this year.

Oxbow Bend

At the end of the evening, we went to Oxbow Bend to look for wildlife. On the way there we saw a Golden Eagle sitting on a post beside the road.

At Oxbow, we got to hear elk bugling and saw several out in a field chasing each other.

After sunset, we headed back to Merry Piglets in Jackson for our last nights meal. Yummy!

Post office in Moose, Wyoming

Check out the moose in the pictures.

Lunch spot

We stopped here and made lunch. What an awesome view!

Smoke

You can barely make out the mountain range for all of the smoke. You can see that there is still some snow on the mountains.

Church in the Grand Tetons

The church has had some changes over the years. The pictures show what it has looked like in the past.

Plane coming in Jackson airport

Wednesday

Well this was our last full day in Yellowstone/Grand Teton, and we made the most of it. There are new fires burning in the area and visibility is poor but that did not stop us.

Laundry time

After watching the buffalo, we headed back into Jackson to do much needed laundry. We did laundry at The Missing Sock. We also filled up with petrol and went to the grocery store. With tasks completed we went to the base of a ski slop to make dinner. Mike and Earl took Sibley and Delaney for a walk while we were getting dinner ready. We hit a little snag when our grill ran out of propane, so we headed back to the campground and finished the steaks there.
