Padre Island National Seashore

The visitors center had a great hands on exhibit. Two of the neatest things they had were parts out of a drum. The first picture is what is commonly referred to as ear stones out of a drum. These come out of the head and if you cut them open you can count rings and tell how old the drum was. Just like rings in a tree.
The second picture is the crushers and are located in the back of the throat and allow the drum to eat crab and other crustaceans. With these a drum can make whatever it throws in palatable. They look remarkable like a plate of molar teeth.
